GI disorders are a frequent complaint in the senior population. Untreated or inadequately treated GI conditions can have serious effects on the resident’s clinical course and impact quality of life, eg. Sleep disruptions, weight loss, etc. The goal of this symposium is to provide participants with information for understanding and differentiating the common GI disorders (gastric and duodenal ulcers, GERD, colitis, and IBS) in seniors. The program will further review therapies, pharmacologic and non-phnarmacologic, for each condition based on current treatment guidelines with specific discussion on length of treatment. In addition to the clinical considerations needed to manage these disorders, a review of payer issues which effect treatment options will be discussed.
This program was supported by an educational grant from Wyeth Pharmaceuticals. |
